The Nightingale is a beautifully written tale about two sisters that live in occupied France during World War II. They both have very different, yet remarkable, stories to tell and this results in a wonderful and touching book. Although this is an incredible book, it is dark and has moments of violence, fear, and sexual themes, which does make it more suitable for students that are a bit older. It's reading level is fairly low so students as young as 4th or 5th grade will most likely be able to understand it, but we recommend that mature students in 6th or 7th grade or older read this book.
